The Precision Silicone Molding or Precision Injection Molding process starts with the A&B parts of liquid silicone compound formula. These two parts are delivered at a fixed ratio, most commonly 1 : 1, from material drums by a hydraulic or pneumatic metered pumping system to a static mixer. The two-part silicone compound is then blended in the static mixer into a homogenous suspension through a mixing process which activates the compounds platinum cure system. The liquid silicone material flows from the static mixer to the injection unit, and the LSR material is then injected into the cavity through a runner and gate system. This system holds in the mold under extreme pressure and high temperatures until the rubber is vulcanized. Once the material has reached an optimal level of cure and the cycle has completed, the parts are removed from the mold cavities to begin the next cycle.
Precision Silicone Molding Advantages
- Cure times are much shorter compared to compression molding
- High repeatability
- Tight tolerance and Precision components
- In-line material pigmentation with material flow to produce colors
- Supports over-molding and complex geometries
